Johnson family enjoys SAR Colonial Ball and Debutante Presentation

On 17 December 2010, the Birmingham Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) introduced 14 lovely and accomplished young ladies into society at the SAR’s Colonial Ball and Debutante Presentation at The Club in Birmingham. High atop Birmingham’s Red Mountain, several Johnson family members enjoyed the elegant dinner and presentation as the guests of Wylie Pierson Johnson (Uncle Wylie), including daughter Melanie Fay Johnson, Kellet Carmichael (granddaughter) and Joshua May, Wylie Benjamin “Ben” (son) and Jessica Johnson, and O. L. “Pete” (nephew) and Mary Jean Johnson. Uncle Wylie is a past state president of the SAR.

Unfortunately, we do not have personal photos of the event, but we invite you to enjoy photos of the evening as seen in the January 2011 edition of the Carala, newsletter of the Alabama Chapter of the Children of the American Revolution. Each young debutante was presented by her father or other male family member of the society. As you can see, the young ladies were dressed in formal, white, full-length ball gowns and carried lovely white bouquets including long-stemmed, white roses. Their presenters and escorts were handsomely attired in “tails.”

We thank you, Uncle Wylie, for a lovely evening. Especially at these times, we are mindful of the struggle for American independence. The Johnson Family can be proud of its progenitors. Their sacrifices in that effort made our evening of beauty and tranquillity possible.
