Wylie Pierson Johnson, our dear Uncle Wylie, greatly appreciated the thoughtfulness of the many, many family members who visited with him, shared stories, brought food and flowers, and sent cards and letters over the past few weeks. He expressed this openly. We all felt his love for each and every one of us. In the days leading up to and at his funeral service, all of Uncle Wylie's family - his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren - were comforted by the love, sympathy, and respect expressed by family and friends.

Several family members have asked how they might remember Uncle Wylie with a memorial gift.

After discussion and consideration, Bobbie, Melanie Fay and Ben have decided that it would be most fitting and appreciated if family members and friends would send memorials to the American Chestnut Foundation. As those of you who attended Uncle Wylie's service know, the work of the Foundation was dear to his heart. As Ben shared, "My cousin, Tim Albritton, spoke at the graveside and gave a most eloquent remembrance of the day we went to Halfmile Shoals for the tree planting ..., and he spoke of my father's interest in the Chestnuts and what a wonderful day that was. I planted trees with my father all my life, and he always spoke of improving things for future generations." (News and photos of the great day at Halfmile Shoals in Bibb Co. on March 15, 2011are poster here.)

Memorial gifts can be sent in memory of Wylie Pierson Johnson to:
TACF (The American Chestnut Foundation)
160 Zillicoa Street, Suite D
Asheville, NC 28801

Another cause that was dear to Uncle Wylie's heart was helping deserving students in furthering their education. To support the Economics Department at Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) and in loving memory of his own father, he established the Seth Johnson Memorial Endowed Scholarship at AUM to be awarded to a "meritorious student with keen interest in Economics." The family is working on a memoriam to further strengthen the AUM School of Economics and would welcome your memorial gifts to assist in that effort. That project is under development. We'll provide details here as soon as possible.

Uncle Wylie will always be dear to our hearts - a man of honor and integrity who was fair, kind and respectful to all and who loved God, Country and Family above all else. Please keep Bobbie, Melanie Fay, and Ben and all of Uncle Wylie's family in your prayers.
